Ian Carter

Co-founder & President

Ian Carter was raised in Los Angeles, California and recently graduated from Dartmouth College with a major in government studies. He particularly studied socioeconomic structures in the Americas, where he discovered the ways in which economic prosperity is dependent on how the government interacts with its citizens. Because of his education, Ian believes that citizens can work together to create social welfare and benefit local economies. He has committed himself to making the world a better place by promoting entrepreneurs and business owners that provide goods and services while also pushing social agendas that build up their communities.

Ian is the Co-founder of the Helping Hand Initiative, and serves as the current President. Ian, along with other founders Zoe Leonard and Guilien Smith, wants to give back to local small POC-owned businesses because he believes that it is the best way to bring people together and create a better world in the future.

Guilien Smith

Co-founder and Vice President

Guilien Smith, raised in Boston, is an MBA student and a Graduate Assistant Coach at Northeastern University in Boston MA. His MBA concentration is in Investments. In June of 2020 he gained his M.S from D’Amore McKim School of Business at Northeastern University in International Business. He is also a 2019 graduate of Dartmouth College, where he earned a BA in Sociology. He is a former student athlete, where he played four years of basketball at Dartmouth and one year at Northeastern. Guilien has been a volunteer for various charitable foundations, including food and clothing drives. Previously he served as a Commercial Real Estate Analyst Intern for WS Development and an Intermediary Brokerage Intern at GFI Group. Guilien is a Co-founder of the Helping Hand Initiative, as well as the Vice President. He, along with other founders Ian Carter and Zoe Leonard, wants to give back to the small POC owned businesses in the  community that he comes from in the forms of monetary and social media support.

Zoe Leonard

Co-founder & Secretary

Zoe Leonard, a native of Hilo, Hawai’i, is a graduating member of the Dartmouth College class of 2019. She was a Linguistics modified with Sociology major and a four year member of the volleyball team. She studied race and ethnicity and its intersection with language, including a term abroad in New Zealand and field work in Samoa. As a student at Dartmouth, Zoe served as the Jaeger Civic intern and fundraising intern for the athletics department, where she fostered volunteer outreach and engagement between athletes and the surrounding local community. Since graduation, she has served as the academic advisor for Dartmouth athletics, and is currently the assistant coach for the varsity women’s volleyball program. Zoe is also a board member for PVBC, Inc., a youth volleyball nonprofit in Hawai’i. Zoe is a Co-founder and Secretary of the Helping Hand Initiative. She along with other founders Ian Carter and Guilien Smith want to give back to the small POC owned businesses in the  community in the forms of monetary and social media support.

Will Emery

Treasurer

Will Emery, raised in San Fransisco, CA, graduated from Dartmouth College cum laude with a degree in Government in the summer of 2020. While at Dartmouth, Will was a member of the varsity basketball team for three years. In his senior year, Will forwent the opportunity to continue his basketball career, instead opting to help revive and modernize a former campus print publication called Common Sense. Common Sense seeks to promote a more civil intra-campus dialogue surrounding controversial topics by selecting anonymous essays for publication. Previously, Will has worked as a research analyst at Farallon Capital Management in San Francisco, as a Congressional intern in Washington, D.C., and as a research analyst in the Export-Import Bank of the United States. He has additionally volunteered in an array of charitable institutions around the San Francisco Bay Area including Today’s Youth Matter and the San Francisco Food Bank. Will acts as the current Treasurer of the Helping Hand Initiative.
